An operator who studies why AI adoption succeeds — or fails.
Her frameworks read AI adoption through an Industrial-Organizational Psychology lens — the science of how people and organizations actually change, not just the technology they’re handed.
Karen Tinoco has spent more than fifteen years leading people and technology inside some of the most demanding organizations in the world — Starbucks, Apple, and Amazon. She has run operations across markets, turned around stalled programs, and built the leadership and adoption models that decide whether a new technology is embraced or quietly abandoned.
What sets her apart is the pairing. She is pursuing a doctorate in Industrial-Organizational Psychology with an AI concentration and holds thirty AI certifications from AWS, Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI. Not a technologist explaining the technology, and not a futurist forecasting it — an operator who has made the decision in the room, and the scholar who studies why those decisions work.
That combination produced two frameworks and two books: Understanding AI: What Leaders Don’t Know, and Human & System Resources in Latin American Organizations, which introduces her HSIMM maturity model. Born in Nicaragua and based in Miami, she works in English and Spanish. She founded The Human Element on one conviction: in an era obsessed with the technology, the advantage belongs to the leaders who never lose sight of the people.
